Propagate Progress is participatory, community-building event culminating with a sculptural installation. The public attended an artist-led happening at Bergamot Station Center for the Arts to discuss their visions for progress. Each person contributed their promise to the future by writing it on large-scale paper rolls, which were later transformed into the physical sculpture. The purpose of the project is to explore the multiple meanings of “progress” within a given community. Bergamot Station embodies a rich history of “progress” in transportation, technology and community. Whether it is tourists or commuters, Bergamot has been an entry point into Santa Monica. This project similarly uses the Station as an entry point to talk about Santa Monica’s visions as a community for the future.
